“Rain, rain, go way, Come again another day”. We all know this nursery rhyme, perhaps all too well. It never seems to fail. When you have some big outside adventure planned or look forward to a day poolside, our unpredictable weather tends to “rain on your parade”. In Northeast Ohio and Erie, PA, we can have sunshine and blue skies or clouds and rain. You never really know what you are going to get throughout our summer days and nights. Finding yourself with a day impacted by the rain, doesn’t have to be a bad thing, in fact, it can give you the opportunity to do things you wouldn’t normally do throughout the summer months. We are going to review some of our favorite things to do and ideas for a rainy day.
Ideas for a Rainy Day
While a rainy day can really put a damper on that nice relaxing swim or that fun pool day you had planned, it doesn’t have to ruin the entire day, it just gives you the opportunity to change it. Sometimes the rain allows you to explore a whole new slew of possibilities. Below we take a look at some of our favorite ideas for a rainy day.
- Move the Party Indoors: During the summer months, odds are, your home’s game room is not seeing as much use or activity as it usually does (trust us, we don’t blame you for trying to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible). A rainy day is the perfect time to wipe the dust off and move the family, and if you have guests over, inside. Your game room provides entertainment options for people of all ages and is sure to be a big hit. Challenge your family in a game of billiards, play a board game, host your friends at the bar, the possibilities are endless.
- Keep the Food Coming: With the right grill and/or smoker, the rain shouldn’t stop you from cooking outdoors. In fact, it may give you the time and opportunity to try that recipe you have been putting on hold while you were floating around your pool all summer. If you don’t feel like tackling the raindrops for your taste buds, one of our favorite things to do on a rainy day is bake. Turn your kitchen into a bakery and invite the whole family to help.
- Go on a Local Adventure: As we said, we don’t blame you for wanting to be outside as much as possible in the summer months in Northeast Ohio and Erie, PA, but a rainy day gives you a great excuse to hit the museum, go bowling, visit that new local bakery you have heard about, and more. Make it an adventure and explore the local places you have been putting on hold while you have been basking in the sun.
- Clean: Yes, we know, this idea for a rainy day isn’t the most exciting, but odds are, your indoor chores have been slacking while you have been outside enjoying the sunshine. Use this opportunity to catch up on doing things around the inside that have been put on hold. Make it fun for the whole family. Play music, make a game out of it, and take the “ugh” out of the whole cleaning experience.
When it comes to ideas for a rainy day, we could go on and on. Just because the raindrops are falling, doesn’t mean moods need to. You can have a movie marathon, do arts and crafts, work on science experiments, have a dance party or scavenger hunt, and so much more; the point is, the rain doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.
