Purchasing a hot tub for your Northeast Ohio or Erie, PA home is exciting, and should stay that way. You have just taken your first step to relaxation, so do just that, relax. There are things you can do to make sure that you are ready for the delivery of your spa and to make the process go smoothly. We are going to review some tips for how to prepare for your new hot tub.

Tips for How to Prepare for Your New Hot Tub

Congratulations! You have taken the first step to having relaxation, stress relief, and entertainment all in your very own backyard. Now it’s time to prepare for the delivery, so you can start enjoying the benefits of owning a hot tub in no time.

You should stay just as thrilled about your hot tub from purchase right down to when you are soaking in it. We have provided some tips for how you can prepare for your new hot tub, to make the process as easy as possible.

  • Select the location for your new spa. To start, you need to find a location around your home where you would like to put the hot tub and make sure it is supported. Because of our cold winters in Northeast Ohio and Erie, PA, you may think about placing it as close to your home as possible to allow easy access on those frigid winter days. Select a location that has a water source nearby, allows for draining, is well supported and can hold the weight when filled with water, and will fit the hot tub. When filled with water and people a hot tub can weigh over 1 ton, and it is critical to make sure wherever you are putting it, can safely hold that weight. Keep in mind the added weight of snow, in the colder months, when calculating if a structure will hold the weight or not. Many people decide to go with a location on solid ground and have a concrete pad or patio stones.
  • Measure to ensure it will fit and you will have access to all parts of the hot tub. You likely measured the space for your spa when you selected the location, but it is important to think about all areas of the hot tub you will need access to. Make sure there is room to add hot tub steps, you are able to open the access panel, there is space to get to all sides of the spa should it need serviced, and there is room to add any other furniture or accessories you may want in the space. Don’t forget to measure doors and gates to ensure your spa will get through those as well.
  • Make sure you have proper electrical for the spa. One of the key things to think about when preparing for your new hot tub, is providing the proper electricity to it to keep it functioning as it should. Most hot tubs require 220 volts, which is different than a standard outlet. You can have the electric set up and ready to go when the spa is delivered, schedule the electrician for the same day as the delivery so they can coordinate as the hot tub is placed, or wait to have the connection installed until after the spa is in place. Keep in mind, these options may come with pros and cons. If you have the electrical installed before the spa, and there is an issue with placing the hot tub in the specified location, you may have to have it redone. If you have the electrical set up after the spa is delivered and the electrician finds an issue or something that prevents that location from working for the electrical, you will need the spa moved. The best option is to try and coordinate the electrician and delivery all in the same day and time frame to avoid future frustrations.
  • Don’t forget about having a water source nearby. As we referenced above, to prepare for your new hot tub, you need to ensure you have a water source nearby, or a plan for filling the spa. You will need to clean your hot tub and the water will need to be changed from time to time, so it’s important to have a plan for that and ensure easy access to a water source. Also, make sure that in the location you select, there is a safe area to drain your hot tub.
  • Clear a path for delivery. Once you have the location ready to house your new spa, make sure that the delivery team can get to it. Ensure there is a clear path to the new home of your hot tub and there is enough space between gates and doors for the delivery to happen safely. Spas are typically wheeled in standing up on their sides, so ask about the dimensions and be sure to include space for the wheels of the device rolling it in. Keep in mind height access as well. If you have low hanging items in the path, move them. Make sure the path is completely clear, including outdoor furniture, toys, hoses, bushes, pets, etc.
